The Radio Award

The Radio AwardThe Hunchback of Notre Dame, by the Graeae theatre company for Radio 4

British radio is probably the finest in the world. The best work of the BBC and some independent stations, provide case studies for students on our Ability Media radio training courses.

Ability Media is aiming to have its own radio station shortly which will broadcast the best of our students’ work.

Graeae, (pronounced Grey Eye), working in collaboration with BBC Radio Drama North, has produced a radical radio dramatisation of Victor Hugo’s classic tale of love, betrayal and moral courage. The central characters are strong personalities, all on the margins of society. The play does not romanticise Quasimodo, the disabled protagonist, and successfully challenges traditional views of disability with considerable creativity and artistic brilliance. This has resulted in a critically acclaimed radio drama of the highest order.
